Review:

A few weeks ago, Alicia Crofton sent me an ARC for her book, Exit Through the Jungle in exchange for an honest review, and I was more than happy to read it.

Exit Through the jungle is light summer read. Set in Costa Rica, this book is the perfect one to cuddle up on a couch and get lost in a beautiful paradise full of humour and romance.

Jolie Boulard is an Instagram model and yogi but mysteriously the brands have stopped contacting her and she’s going broke. I liked and related to the character of Jolie. She’s light, carefree, doesn’t overthink and has her priorities set. When she wants something done, she’ll get it done. She is strong and knows how to protect herself (and the girl can headbutt.) Plus, she loves yoga.

Kai Greene is a serious character, who wants to keep his family together and will do anything to take care of his mother, even if it meant kidnapping a girl. By accident, of course. But Kai’s has to pay for his brother’s mistakes and somehow with one exciting event leading to another Kai and Jolie end up in a jungle, ehm...rainforest, together.

The humour in his book is really good. I couldn’t stop that goofy smile that kept coming over my face as I read this book. Alicia Crofton’s writing style is so amazing and I loved the snarky remarks and witty exchanges that followed throughout. There was never a “boring” moment and before even realising, three hours have passed and you’re still turning the page looking for more.

One of the amazing thing is it talks about animals, why they are adorable, and a rescue centre.

 Favourite Quotes: 

1. There had to be some sort of Nobel Prize for being able to turn Jolie Boulard down for the sake of her safety.

2. “Oh, just a few coconut balls. I found a vegan recipe on the interwebs,” Gretta said in her adorable German accent. Jolie loved it when Kai’s mother referred to the internet. She called YouTube “the YouTubes” and Facebook “the MyFace.”

3. “You are the most beautiful creature in this sanctuary.”

Jolie looked up at him, pinching her eyebrows together. “Are you comparing me to the sloths and monkeys?”

Kai nodded, grinning ear to ear.

“Then that is the most romantic thing you’ve ever said,” Jolie said, kissing him again.

4. “Jesus! You scared me,” Jolie said, clutching her chest.

“Most people call me Kai,” he said, approaching her with his hands in surrender. “But you can call me Jesus if you want.”

5. “Life is not about the things, Mom. It’s about the experiences. It’s about making an impact on people’s lives.”

6. “You are more than a one-night stand to me.” Kai’s chest constricted. “If this is just sex, then I say we end this now. I don’t work that way.”

Did you know that sloths do a little dance before they poop? That has nothing to do with my book, but it was fun fact I came across while I was writing my story. . Speaking of sloths... I think they might be my spirit animal, given how slow I’m trudging through my current WIP.
